Mokoro trips are the most exciting way to explore the Okavango Delta. The Mokoro is a traditional dug-out canoe and the most popular mode of transport on the Delta. Gliding along the waters in a Mokoro allows you a unique opportunity to view water-based game. One minute you’ll be paddling peacefully down the network of lagoons and the next the waters will part in front of you as a herd of hippo rises to the surface. Your experienced guide will propel you expertly past them, far away enough to be safe but close enough to see the droplets of water on their giant nostrils.
Okavango fly over for a bird’s eye view
The palm fringed waterways and remote islands of the Delta are breathtaking from the ground and even more so from the air.
There are a number of air charter operators that fly over the region, most of which are based in Maun. Most airplanes are single engine light aircraft such as Airvans, Cessna 206s and Cessna Caravans.
We can also arrange a helicopter flight starting from Maun or Kasane, either as a transfer to your game lodge or as a scenic flight for sheer pleasure. Due to the remoteness of the area most of the runways are dirt or grass, with a small hut and wind sock making up the terminal. It’s an out of Africa experience that needs to be tried to be believed.
